Having a Positive Mindset
It can be difficult to keep a positive mindset every day. Even I am not immune to negative self-talk. One way I manage this is by making sure that, as soon as I wake up in the morning, I talk to my savior and thank Him for all He has done. I thank Him for the simple things, including keeping my family safe and healthy, for waking me up in the morning, and for His mercy.
By taking the time to remember all I am grateful for in the morning, I set myself up to have a positive mindset going into the rest of the day. This is one example of what works for me, but there are many other ways to keep ourselves motivated to face the day.
Asking yourself these questions can help you orient your mindset towards positivity:
What is my passion? What do I want to do today that I will enjoy doing?
- Walking outside every morning
- Reading a book or inspirational quotes and meditating on them
- Exercising to gain physical energy
- Listening to inspirational music
What habits make me feel at ease?
- Following a daily routine, such as waking up early in the morning
- Keeping an organized work schedule
- Prioritizing a work-life balance while remaining productive
What is the focus of the day?
- Checking off my to-do list one task at a time
- Focusing on one task at a time (not multitasking)
- Taking breaks and resuming when I’m ready
- Splitting my tasks into parts if they require more time
How can I remind myself of the importance of each task?
- Listing why the task needs completion makes following through with that task more likely
- Having objectives keeps the mind focused and motivated to complete the task
- Never giving up gives us a sense of accomplishment
What else contributes to my motivation?
- Remaining consistent
- Using any amount of time, whether that’s 5 minutes or an hour, to make progress on a task
- Recruiting friends who are willing to help, even just for a few minutes
- Surrounding myself with like-minded people
- Working in an environment that helps me get into a productive mindset
How can I reward myself when I’ve accomplished something?
- Celebrating the wins, no matter how small
- Having a dance
- Getting a cup of coffee
- Rewarding myself with what works for me!
Having a positive mindset can help us live self-compassionate lives. Self-compassion can provide us the same kindness we give our friends. Self-compassion can also help us feel happier and have a healthier mindset. It is easier said than done, but through practice, it can be achieved.
